We, at NeoKids provide support for families who wish to breastfeed their newborns while they are admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Breast milk offers numerous health benefits for premature and sick infants, and we are committed to helping you achieve your breastfeeding goals.
Our Support Team:
• Lactation consultants: Specially trained nurses who will provide personalized guidance on initiating and maintaining lactation, pumping techniques, and overcoming challenges.
• NICU nurses: Equipped with knowledge of breastfeeding and will assist with positioning your baby for feeding and skin-to-skin contact (kangaroo care) whenever possible.
• Neonatologists: Work collaboratively with the lactation team to ensure a plan that prioritizes both your baby’s medical needs and your breastfeeding goals.
Our Services:
• Education:
o Pre- and post-partum breastfeeding education sessions for families considering breastfeeding a NICU baby.
o Individualized counseling sessions with to address specific concerns and develop a personalized breastfeeding plan.
• Support for milk production:
o Assistance with initiating and maintaining milk supply through pumping techniques and schedule development.
o Access to hospital-grade breast pumps for in-hospital use.
o Support for coordinating milk storage and transportation for feedings.
• Delivery of breast milk:
o Guidance on safe storage and transportation of expressed breast milk.
o Collaboration with the NICU team to ensure proper milk administration based on your baby’s needs.
• Skin-to-Skin contact (Kangaroo Care):
o Encouragement and facilitation of kangaroo care whenever medically possible.
o Assistance with positioning your baby for optimal skin-to-skin contact during pumping sessions.
